STRENGTHS:

Resourceful - Jade is shown early on to be incredibly resourceful. Not only does she maintain a greenhouse, but she lives by herself on an island out in the Pacific. She’s got to be able to know how and where to get everything she needs, in the event that it’s not just stored somewhere because her grandfather (genetic father) Jake Harley knew he wouldn’t/couldn’t be around forever. Either way, though, she’s had to be self-reliant from a very early age, with only her dog to raise her. Even with the high-tech tower house and WiFi to be able to talk to her friends online.

Optimistic - Jade has a wellspring of optimism within her. From the beginning she was sure that playing Sburb would be a good thing in that she could see her friends again, she held onto hope even when the Game proved to be a living nightmare. She’s excited to explore the new, weird land she ends up in, happily crushes monsters, and goes about her frog breeding duties as a Space player with a skip in her step.

Quick to help/act - She’s also known to act fast and think on her feet. As Prospit, a moon, was burning and falling and she and John were falling with it, she was shaking and slapping him to try and wake him up. When Jade’s Dream Self merged with the sprite that she’d already merged with her superpowered dog guardian, she was all ready and raring to go thinking that the sprite would be able to better help her and her friends.

FLAWS:
Impatient - All this said, she is impatient. She’s the type that wants things done now, and hated that Jadesprite was just sitting, er, floating around crying when they could be out there doing something.

She largely grows out of this later on as she grows more into her title as a Witch of Space, which, one of the things that Space is about is the bigger picture and having patience, as opposed to its counterpart, Time.

Forgetful - Jade can… also be plenty forgetful too. In her introduction, she’s shown to have several colorful strings tied around her fingers to help her remember things. It's mostly because she has a lot on her mind and a lot that she keeps track of. It's also in part due to Vriska's influence, experimenting with her mind controlling abilities on Jade to make her fall asleep a lot.

Bottles Negative Emotions - This one has a lot to it simply because of how it ties into most of her other key personality traits.

She hates her weaknesses and vulnerabilities. When her dream self revives as a sprite, she’s mad that Jade is just there and crying and not doing anything. She hates it when she's mad, even when she knows it's not healthy for her to keep it all bottled up. She doesn't want to upset the only friends she's ever had. She was once in a place where she felt like she couldn't do anything, like she was only weighing her friends, her team, down. So to hear other people being hard on themselves, limiting themselves by what they can't do, it irritates her and frustrates her to no end.

She states that she feels she can’t just tell her friends they’re bothering her, that she gets frustrated with some of the things they do, even if her outlook of them is overall a genuinely positive one. She bottles it all up in a parallel similar to a volcano. It just keeps building up and up until it blows.

Yet. It doesn’t spew out lava when it does. This eruption is caused by, oh no, the Her Imperial Condescension mind controlling her using methods that work on both humans and animals. And it’s in a way pretty scary. You wouldn’t think so, for it’s all hot ash and smoke and plumes of material Other than magma. She’s not spilling out curses and getting overwhelming angry. Jade’s personality in this instance doesn’t change much at all.

And that’s what’s scary. Sure she doesn’t appear that way. Nagging and rude to her friend Dave. Providing muscle back up to a device-mind controlled Jane. Tracking down John who can turn into the wind so is probably the only person able to evade her for long periods of time. Threatening, or trying anyway, Roxy. Her personality is all still intact. It’s her goals and allegiance that have been swayed.

Canon Abilities: There is no specific list of powers and abilities that she has, but once God Tier, she has shown a mastery over matter and space manipulation, flight, a canine sense of smell, semi-immortality, super strength (which she’s had to a lesser degree while human), size manipulation (to go with matter and space and everything else), and of course, some kind of teleportation. However, it is noted that this teleportation is limited to within the range/dimension that the Green Sun is in, though how much of her other powers were limited in that way as well, is unfortunately not stated.

AU INFORMATION

AU CHARACTER NAME: Jade (Surname, Harley; she often skips/forgets when introducing herself)
AGE: 16 years old
GRADE: Grade 10 (16, Sophomore High School)
AU BACKSTORY: Jade spent the first ten years of her life on an island in the middle of nowhere, under an illusion. She's a natural born lycanthrope, one of the classical wolf variety, however due to the illusion she had believed herself to be human. And that she had a pet dog named Becquerel who practically raised her.

See, Jake Harley, that famous/infamous mage dude, had left two of his kids for this girl thinking hey, she's the one! But he never gets to see this whole thing realized, seeing as he "dies" when Jade is very young and isn't around for pretty much her entire life. It is meant to be ambiguous whether the body Jade had stumbled across is, in fact, Jake or not, as to leave him potentially appable if someone wants to. There are other, real, actual dogs that Jake had brought with him and had to help him hunt, though, so aside from the real/living illusion of Jade's animal half manifest, she was in a "raised by wolves" sort of situation.

That is until the Condesce got a hold of her when she was ten.

This may be how she leaves her island and how the illusion breaks, but it also results in a near-death experience before Condy kidnaps and uses, eh, varying methods of controlling her. She'd transformed and fought the Condescension's agents sent there to capture her until she was in a very badly injured state, after seeing what they'd done to her pack.

The experiments and mind controlling methods leaned heavily into the magical, but some good old fashion manipulation and bribery were also used. Jade doesn't much like magic as a result, even with her being capable of using it. She's never thought to or tried to. Doesn't want to touch it even though she may, eventually, might be pressed to.

Jade's flame decides to make itself known months into this, giving her the lovely ability to teleportal (teleport via localized portals folding spacetime, usually centered around herself but can include passengers), and eventually escape with a little help. 6 years go by (only very recently turning 16) where she's running from the Condescension, searching for any family she may have (as implied by Condy but was only ever given names to go by).

She eventually makes her way to Daybreak Academy via accidental teleportalization into something like the teacher's/faculty lounge. Oops. In her defense, she'd smelled Condescension people nearby and had to get out of there fast before things got ugly.

AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION:
Magic and Mind Control - Jade may not hate them or those who use those abilities, but she is afraid. That fear has in the past, while on the run, lead her to shy away from all forms of it, even the ones not used on her, and from most human contact in general. Her experiences while held by the Condescension has led her to also believe certain things about how mages work in their society and in their smaller families and guilds. That there is a strict hierarchy upheld and anyone that doesn’t fit or tries to deviate from it will be sentenced to death. Even once she gets over this fear for the mages amongst Daybreak attendees and faculty, her first instinct when seeing magic performed, or when encountering mind magic, will always be to run.

Raised by Dogs - No, not wolves as the saying usually goes. Dogs. Formerly domesticated hunting dogs if you want to be precise. Having this as her foundation for the first ten years of her life gives her a different sort of worldview, and different sort of resourcefulness and take charge attitude than seeing in canon. It’s more survival oriented and more toward how she and any allies or friends would work best together in a fight or hunt. Though admittedly, hunting down monsters will be a very different animal than just regular ol’ deer. She doesn’t know a lot of the things she does in canon simply by virtue of not having it available to her, but she’s smart enough that it won’t take her too long to learn. In just a couple months she can already explain complicated space science when it comes to her portals, if in a dumbed down sort of way.

Lack of Social Skills - Being on the run from the Condescension for so long and having that pesky Lycanthrope situation made her stick to the outskirts of human civilization, only really observing from afar for the most part and getting up close around new moons. She has some knowledge of things already thanks to all the magic and mind control used on her, but things like social cues are things slowly learned, here. In canon she has some of this going on, having still grown up on an island, but it’s aimed more toward things like going to school and some other social cues rather than, well, how to Social.

By the point that Jade is able to attend classes however she will have made some strides in social skills and even more in her knowledge base for having roughly two-ish months to work on them. Both for things like school and for how to interact with people and things you just. Don’t mention or say. Also in science.

RACE: Werewolf (born)
SECRET SOCIETY: Well, Jade’s a born Lycanthrope (wolf variety), however, she’s never had a pack or been around anyone of her own kind before. When her Candle/Flame ability (Tele-portals, teleporting through portals that bend/warp/fold spacetime centered on herself) manifested, she wasn’t brought to the academy right away but did eventually find her way there by way of a teleportation accident.

POWERS: Jade’s a natural lycan so she is able to transform pretty much whenever she wants. However, she cannot stop herself from transforming in the days (the day before, the day of, and the day after) surrounding the full moon, and vice versa cannot transform at all in the days surrounding the new moon. During the three days surrounding the full moon, she may have one to three different wolfish features stick with her in human form (typically ears to replace her human ones, tail, and claw-nails), while during the new moon she won’t be able to make any of them appear. The Condescension was never able to find a way around this. Tricking her mind? Didn’t work. Mind control? Nada. Heightened emotions and or life or death situations? Still nothing. So for three days a month, she got maybe half of a break.

Moon Phases (and their effects on her)

New Moon (day before, day of, day after)- No wolf features; dulled senses; cannot transform at all; usually in a sour or sad mood; no meat is eaten (not known if this is normal for her or just something she does regardless)

Waxing/Waning Crescent - Only able to manifest claws or ears and not both (no tail in sight); hard to transform (takes up more energy to do so and leaves her tired in both states); irritable or otherwise just not wanting to deal with other people much

Half Moon - Loves this Moon. Can manifest both ears and tail in human form; transform more easily; senses are back to normal lycan levels; happy as a clam

Waxing/Waning Gibbous - More wolffish behavior shows; territorial and protective; more playful; lots of meat is being eaten; canine sounds being used amongst regular speech; senses starting to heighten

Full Moon (day before, day of, day after)- Wolf features such as tail and ears (the two common ones) are always there in human form; can transform at the drop of a hat and can’t avoid doing it at all, restless and full of energy; more wolf than human in behavior; vast majority meat diet during these few days; senses dialed up to eleven

Something to note: Jade’s wolf claws are something which she associates with The Condescension and her time there, having been made to manifest them instead of her tail, and so other than maybe crescent moons and full transformations, she hardly ever shows them in human form.

(Note: If anything about this is not something that’s allowed please let me know and I will strive to fix it/change it with something that is. I know that they're meant to appear human in human form so this is my workaround unless, again, this sort of thing isn't allowed)

Her candle ability mirrors her ability to teleport, however since it's not specifically stated how she does this, my explanation here will be through the use of portals.

Although Jade doesn’t know this, her Flame ability to teleport through the use of portals uses something in the Outlands called the Green Sun. It doesn’t do much other than help her to visualize and lock onto places that she’s never been to before so that she doesn’t accidentally clip herself through a tree like a bad video game glitch. The Green Sun itself also is the source of power for many powerful spirits and daemons with, ominously, similar teleportation abilities amongst other things. They’re not always benevolent, but not all inherently malevolent either.

The Condense may or may not be in a contract with one.

Jade’s connection is very weak cause she ain’t a spirit or daemon but it does help a tiny bit so she doesn’t. Y'know. Lose an arm or get stuck somewhere.

Due to Jake English, a mage, being her father (somehow, no one knows anything about her mom), she is capable of using magic. Due to the Condesce, however, she shies away from it, even is afraid of it, and thus won’t be expanding/adding onto her power portfolio anytime soon. This magical capability may also turn out to be something fairly small, mimicking only one or some of her not-insanely-powerful canon abilities, or it could turn out to simply make Runic magic work better/last longer when applied to her. However, the drawback to any and all of these future possibilities makes it so she is more susceptible/vulnerable to magic being used on her and one that may affect the area around her. I.e. glamours she won’t be able to see through even if her sense of smell may tell her other information, making her confused; mind control in varying forms (affecting humans and or animals); inability to fight off magic like a levitation spell being used on her outside of simple teleportaling away from it.

First Person Sample:
I don't know where I am now. The last place I was in was a thick, woodland area up north with snow on the ground. There had been maybe ten Condescension people behind me. Ones that smelled of decay and sheep, a few that smelled of other livestock, and one that was most similar to fresh prey just caught and killed.

Five Aries, four Taurus, and one Leo.

If I were more familiar with how humans cursed, I probably would have, then. Instead, I swallowed a sound of fear knowing that the Leo would likely smell it on me anyway and teleported out of there in quick, mid-range jumps.

It had been three years since I'd first escaped and for some reason, they were still on my tail. Guess Fish Lady didn't like her favorite pet getting stolen or something.

Now I'm miles away, I know that. I can feel the distance I travel as if I'd walked the distance, and yet by now, I'd grown to tolerate the aches in my legs and feet and the sudden dryness to my throat.

Thankfully, or not, I'm near a human settlement. Maybe they'd be able to spare some water, or there'd be a drinking fountain somewhere.

Third Person Sample:
Jade makes her way into the small town that's, by the sign, somewhere in Pennsylvania. Going from the middle of nowhere, Canada, to here was taking its toll. New Moon out today, thankfully, and yesterday too, which means she can safely wander around without having to worry about transforming to any degree.

It also makes her uniquely vulnerable, but Jade decides to ignore that in favor of giving a small cheer when she spots a water fountain. And there was a bench too! Heck yes, teleporting into this park was doing her a world of favors tonight.

With her throat not screaming in protest and her feet wet and resting off the side of the bench, Jade allows herself to take a moment. Just a moment to look up at the sky and rest. It'd be a while until they found her again, she knew, but she wasn't going to take chances where there were uninvolved people and human pups around. She wasn't going to skip on out at the first opportunity, maybe head down south? It'd been a while since she'd been places that experienced warm, not ice-forming weather at any time of the year.

It certainly was nice. Reminded her of her-

What was that?

Jade flinched, the motion helping her to roll over, flop onto the ground, and breathe.

No.

No, no, no! How'd they get here so fast?! She should have at least a couple days to recover!

Crack!

Jade teleports away without fanfare, without warning. One second she's there, the next, she's gone in a flash of green light.

And the person who dashes out to see her gone, a Taurus, is left cursing for a solid minute.

INTERVIEW SAMPLE PROMPT

1. WHAT DO YOU MOST DESIRE FOR YOUR EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE?
I want to know what all the other people my age know, I guess. Oh! And I want to know things about plants! It sounds cool.

2. WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE IN THE FUTURE?
I want Fish-Condo to stay away from me and my pack and not bother anyone ever again and I want to do the best I can in school. And I also want to find the rest of my family, if I can. I was told I have a brother? I’d like to see him, and know he’s okay even if he doesn’t like me.

3. DESCRIBE YOUR IDEA OF AN IDEAL SCHOOL EXPERIENCE.
Uh, I don’t know what you mean by that? (An Explanation is given) Oh, okay. I’d rather nobody fight and everyone be nice to each other. And… maybe not have so many people in one place? One room. Yeah that.

4. WHAT IS ESSENTIAL FOR A SCHOOL TO OFFER TO ITS STUDENTS?
You mean besides teach us stuff?

5. WHAT DO YOU FEEL MOST LIMITS YOU FROM ACHIEVING YOUR TRUE POTENTIAL?
… (mumbling) I don’t like magic and I don’t like guns. (louder) I don’t know a lot of things that other people… other girls my age know, and (lower, a bit mumbley) I don’t get some things and others probably think I’m dumb.

6. WHAT COURSE WORK EXCITES YOU? WHY?
I like… geology.. No what was the one… Botany! I like that one. Cause it has plants and I actually know a lot of things and can help some of the younger p… kids.

7. WHAT COURSE WORK DO YOU DETEST MOST? WHY?
Magic is stupid and I hate it (she makes a face; not Quite a lie… not exactly telling the truth either though)

8. WHAT ACTIVITIES DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN OUTSIDE YOUR EDUCATION?
None right now. But I think I like Music a lot. Maybe I’ll try something with an instrument. One that doesn’t hurt my ears.

9. WHEN GIVEN FREE TIME, WHAT DO YOU DO WITH IT?
I read a lot, mostly. There’s so much to learn that I didn’t know about before! But I also like being outside when I can.

10. WHEN UNDER PRESSURE OF A TIGHT DEADLINE, HOW DO YOU RESPOND?
If it’s school work I’m going to do the thing! I want to do good. If it’s something else then… I don’t know. Guess it depends on how important it is.

11. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM YOUR PEERS?
Um… that they’re not mean to me?

12. WHEN WORKING IN A GROUP, HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE TO ACHIEVE YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL?
We’d organize by what we do best, of course, and cover any weaknesses or holes with others strengths. (She doesn’t quite get the meaning behind this question, but answers it pretty literally)

13. DO YOU FEEL YOU CAN RELY ON YOUR PEERS, OR DO YOU FEEL YOU MUST EXCEL ON YOUR OWN?
Um...do I have to answer? … There was one person I thought I could but, she’s… kind of dead, now. I’ve had to do a lot on my own since I was taken away from my island.
(Her answer would ultimately be the latter, as even though she's definitely a team player, she feels she has to, not just wants to, be someone where her peers can rely on her just as she relies on them.)

14. IN THIS EVER-CHANGING WORLD, WHAT MOST EXCITES YOU ABOUT THE FUTURE?
Well, what I’m excited about right now is being able to learn and not have to.. Um… (Pause and reroute) I like having the choice to do what I want to do, and what I have to do isn’t bad, just boring or stupid.

15. WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE DO YOU FEAR THE MOST?
I’ve never really thought about the future, much. There were some things, but now things have changed and I’m here, so...I think if I fear anything right now, it’s… going back to where I was (vague gesturing), with Fish Lady.

16. WHAT MEMORIES DO YOU HOPE TO HOLD AT THE END OF YOUR JOURNEY?
Journey? Do you mean my life? I mean, no matter what I’d like to hold onto the memory of that one girl when I was with Condy, the one who helped me get free. (Explaining) Oh. Um… (Sorry, she’s got nothing there)

17. WHAT IN THE FUTURE DO YOU FEAR THE MOST?
That sounds like one of the other questions that I just answered. My answer is the same as the one to that one.
